Tip #1 How to talk with your Salesforce Admin

The whole reason I started on my Salesforce journey was because I was annoyed with a Salesforce instance I was using as an Account Executive. It didn’t do all the things that the Salesforce instance at my previous company did.

All Salesforce Admins and Consultants will cringe when they hear this: My manager gave me admin access as a result of my "asks and complaints." I was able to fix the problem. It's rare that a sales person would be given access to configure Salesforce.

The Salesforce ecosystem shares an abundance of helpful tactics with admins to help them better communicate with and gather requirements from their stakeholders/end users/sales reps/sales managers.  We don’t always share tips with end users to help them communicate with their salesforce admins. As a former salesperson, I’ve decided to help improve the communication by sharing tips on how sales reps/sales managers can communicate their needs to us Admins and Consultants.

Tip#1

A common complaint I hear from sales reps that they have to do a lot of scrolling on a record to find important fields.

There are many causes for long scrolling. It definitely warrants a deeper discussion on what is actually needed on your page layout but here is Tip #1.

Ask them to use or improve the Highlights panel. Are there certain fields you and your peers need to see every time you look at a record?  Your admin can add a highlights panel or update it with up to 6 key fields that you look at all the time.

Here’s how to approach them. “Hi Amazing Salesforce Admin, We scroll a lot on the opportunity/account/lead object to find what we need. Any chance you can move these three fields to the Highlights Panel so I can quickly review information that is valuable to me?"

It’s that simple to start the dialogue.

Here’s to less scrolling!
